The film:

The love story among the greatest poet and his muse Beatrice in a romantic reconstruction, inspired by the art of Dante Gabriele Rossetti and Henry Holiday. Despite the excessive iconographic care, the most intellectual critics turned up their nose for some inaccuracies in the reconstruction.

The film restoration:

The preservation of the Dante e Beatrice, which was carried out by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and the Fondazione Cineteca Italiana di Milano, is part of the project to valorize Torino’s silent films that is promoted by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino in collaboration with Italian and foreign film libraries. The restoration was based on a 902-meter-long tinted nitrate positive print with flash intertitles in English belonging to the “Ambrosio collection” conserved at the Cineteca di Milano. A dupe negative and positive print colored were printed with the Desmet method.

The preservation work was carried out in 2007 at the L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory in Bologna
