The film:

Feérie film: in a floral background, an attractive sorceress amazes the public with some hocus-pocuses. Some pulled off heads appear and disappear through transparent plates, colorful smoke suddenly come out of some bottles on the ground, a fakir and a butterfly-woman appear. The latter, after bowing down in front of the public, turns into the young enchanter who smiles at the public and walks away. 

The coloration, in the best preserved frames, is an elegant multicolour pochoir. Unfortunately the copy presents a bad decay of the emulsion and the central part was lost; in some part, though, the decay created some mysterious effects that add an air of mystery to the magic tricks of the protagonist.

The film restoration:

The digital restoration of Magie moderne was conducted by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino, from a colored nitrate copy belonging to the Museum’s collections. The copy was not well conserved; one completely decayed fragment was removed and the gap indicated with 10 black frames.

The restoration was carried out at the laboratory L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna in 2011.
