The film:

«Don Bosco was for me a chance to talk about a dramatic character, with a human value in many of his aspects. Even If I wasn’t and I’m still not a practicing Christian, the admiration for a man like Don Bosco is beyond any opinion about the religion: an atheist respects and admires him for the bravery, the sacrifice. […] I had been waiting for a long time to make a choral movie, a great dramatic fresco, and I tried to realize this big painting with the Salesians and the whole world of that time. There was the character who dominated all the scene, Don Bosco, full of those human values I wanted to dedicate my tale to. That’s why I sticked to the life of Don Bosco, almost without a screenplay. »
