The film restoration:

The preservation of Ero e Leandro, carried out by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and the Fondazione Cineteca Italiana di Milano, is part of the project to valorize Torino’s silent films that is promoted by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino in collaboration with Italian and foreign film libraries. The restoration was based on a 207-meter-long tinted and toned nitrate positive print with flash intertitles in Italian belonging to the “Ambrosio collection,” which is conserved at the Cineteca of Milano. The flash intertitles were reconstructed and reproduced in order to make them legible. The nitrate print had no title; a comparative analysis of the intertitles of the films on plates produced by Ambrosio which are conserved at Torino’s Cinema Museum made it possible to reconstruct the graphics and the font. The synopsis printed on the original brochure permitted the verification of the completeness of the print, which has no particular gaps. A dupe negative and a positive print colored with the Desmet method were printed.

The restoration was conducted at the L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory in Bologna in 2007.
