The film:

Bruniquel, the king of the delicatessen Parisian owners, goes to the Opera House for the New Years Eve fancy dress ball with some friends while his wife is on a trip. After having a drop too much, Bruniquel starts to court Gigetta. The day after he fears he has committed an irreparable error: his doubt becomes a nightmare when Gigetta is employed as a shop assistant at the delicatessen. The ending (that has been lost) is happy: Gigetta will marry an employee of the deli and the nightmare will vanish.

The film restoration:

The analogic restoration of the film “I Raggi Z” has been carried out by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna, Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and Národní filmový archiv (NFA) in Prague.

The restoration has been realized, with the photochemical process, from a tinted nitrate positive with German intertitles conserved in the archive in Prague.

The laboratory L’Immagine Ritrovata printed a dupe negative and two positive black and white copies on a safety base from the nitrate print. The 35mm positive copies have been later submitted, under the supervision of the Národní Filmový Archiv, to real tinting based on the original colors by Jan Ledecký, with a method that did not require cutting and splicing the film.

The restoration was made in 2021 at the laboratory L’immagine Ritrovata in Bologna and at the Colorspace in Lysá nad Labem (Czeck Republic).
