Compagnia bonifica [Da Identificare]
Reclaiming company [Unidentified Film]
Production: Istituto Nazionale Luce, Roma – Intertitles: Italian –

The film:

The documentary illustrates methods and tools expected to be adopted for the reclamation of contaminated land by aggressive chemicals used during World War I. The film shows the reclaiming of a piece of land and a building for demonstration purposes only. Making reference to the documentary films with a similar subject and style produced by the Istituto Nazionale L.U.C.E., we suppose that the images could refer to the early 1930’s.

The digital process:

Digitalization coordinated by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and by the Istituto Nazionale Luce. The process was based on a positive black and white nitrate print, held by the Museum. The materials were scanned at 2K and the digitized images were processed with digital restoration tools in order to stabilize images and reduce major flaws

All works were carried out in 2015 by Augustuscolor laboratory in Roma.

This digital process was part of a project to safeguard and valorize the World War I films conserved by the Film Archive of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and promoted on the occasion of the exhibition, at the Mole Antonelliana, AL FRONTE. Cineoperatori e fotografi raccontano la Grande Guerra [ON THE FRONT. Cameramen and photographers recount the Great War] (curated by Roberta Basano and Sarah Pesenti Campagnoni - Mole Antonelliana, January 29 – May 17 - 2015).
